Awards Banquet Honors Season's Best

This season's outstanding players were recognized for their achievements during the 2008-09 season at a League banquet held on April 4, 2009 at the Universal City Park. Hockey families reunited to eat, drink and play while honoring the Offensive and Defensive MVPs and Unsung Heroes. Zero Club and Academic awards were also presented to players on each team.

Mites win South Texas Championship

Congratulations to the Thunder Mites for completing the 08-09 season with an amazing 17-0 record. Like many games this year, the Mites handedly won the championship game on March 1, 2009 against the Austin Roadrunners by an 11-2 margin.
This is the second year in a row the Mite team has gone on to win the South Texas Championship after an undefeated season.

Squirt Champions Have a Lot To Celebrate

Early in the season Coach Doug Tresnak introduced the Squirt team to a song from the 1970s. Rare Earth's "I Just Want to Celebrate" became the anthem for the team's winning season in the North Texas Hockey League. After a 17-2-1 OTL record, the squirt team went on to win two straight in the Championship games against the Brahmas on March 7, 2009.
Needless to say, the boys partied like rock stars!

New members of the Board were elected in a River City Hockey Travel Association membership meeting held on Monday, February 23, 2009 at the Northwoods Ice Center. Of the Directors serving in 2008-09, three chose not to run for another term. Robyn Tresnak, the outgoing Presedent who served on the RCHTA Board for three years and Commissioners, Bill Levine and Bob Banks decided not to run for re-election. Their service was certainly appreciated and will be missed.
After tabulating the votes, Election Committee Chair Phil Meyer, announced the following results:
Three (3) Directors elected for a two (2) year term:

Three (3) Directors elected for a one (1) year term:
Bill Brown
Andy Rosengard
Jeff Campbell
David Jones, Don Miller and Bill Brown have been re-elected for new terms. Bill Rooney, Andy Rosengard and Jeff Campbell are rookie members filling the vacated slots. Congratulations to each of these men.
The next Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 2, 2009, at the rink.
